Montessori Preschool

At Tidepool Preparatory Academy, our Montessori inspired preschool is thoughtfully designed to nurture independence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. Every area of the classroom is intentionally prepared to invite exploration, encourage self-confidence, and support each child's natural development.

Estimated in January 2027, Tidepool Prep will offer a licensed, full-day Montessori preschool program for children ages 3–5, Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., with a low 8:1 student-to-teacher ratio that allows for individualized guidance and meaningful relationships.

Our classroom is organized into distinct Montessori learning areas that children are free to explore during an uninterrupted work cycle each morning. In the Practical Life area, students develop independence through activities such as pouring, transferring, food preparation, cleaning, and caring for their environment. These purposeful tasks build concentration, coordination, and confidence while fostering a sense of responsibility.

The Sensorial area helps children refine and organize their senses through hands-on materials that encourage observation, comparison, problem-solving, and critical thinking. In the Language area, children build pre-reading and early literacy skills through phonetic materials, storytelling, conversation, and opportunities to express themselves through writing and communication.

Our Mathematics area introduces mathematical concepts through concrete Montessori materials that allow children to see, touch, and experience numbers, quantities, patterns, and operations before moving toward abstract understanding. The Cultural Studies area invites children to explore geography, science, nature, and the diverse world around them, fostering wonder and a deeper understanding of their place in the world.

Children also have access to a dedicated art studio space where creativity and self-expression are encouraged through a variety of open-ended materials and projects. Throughout the classroom, Pacific Northwest-inspired works and learning materials connect students to the unique ecosystems, wildlife, geography, and cultures of our region, helping them develop a sense of place and appreciation for the natural beauty that surrounds them.

One of the most distinctive features of our preschool is the seamless connection between indoor and outdoor learning. The classroom opens directly into our fully fenced outdoor environment, allowing children to move easily between the classroom and nature. Outdoors, students enjoy opportunities for gross motor development, imaginative play, exploration, and discovery in a safe and welcoming space.

As Tidepool Prep grows, so will our outdoor learning environment. A future garden area will be developed alongside the children, creating opportunities for them to participate in planning, planting, nurturing, and observing the transformation of the space over time. This evolving project will foster stewardship, patience, and a meaningful connection to the natural world while allowing children to take an active role in shaping their learning environment.

At Tidepool Prep, we believe children learn best when they are given the freedom to explore within a carefully prepared environment. By blending Montessori principles, individualized learning, and meaningful connections to nature and the Pacific Northwest, we create a joyful community where every child is encouraged to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
